Chess fans around the
world watched, Via their Computer in 3D, world champion chess
masters Antoly Karpov, 51
and Garry Kasparov, 39 play out
their historic rivalry online at America Online, Inc., the world's leading
interactive services company, on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 19th and
20th 2002. in New York City. The event, consisted of four
50-minute time-controlled matches 25 minutes for each game, with an additional 10 seconds
for each move. David Blaine,
one of
the greatest magician on earth, made the first move to kick off this years chess
Tournament.
The two champions
first met in 1984, when 21-year-old Kasparov
challenged then number one champion Karpov. After five months and
a series of 17 consecutive draws, the World Chess Federation had to cancel the match,
citing the exhaustion of both players. The next year, Kasparov came back to
beat Karpov and made history by becoming the
youngest World Champion at age 22. Since then, Kasparov has defended his
title against Karpov in 1986, 1987, and 1990. The
